Most of you know, on May 21, we had to let our beloved cat, Brighid (AKA Biddie, destructo kitty, grocery bag attacking, shadow stalking, funny-bunny, laundry cat), go. We refused to make her suffer & did the right thing out of love and a sacred contract we signed with our souls the second we took her home as an 8-week old kitten in 1993 (fulfilled, sadly yet with peace, May 2006).
We received a letter in the mail from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine Feline Health Center. This letter really touched me, and I need to share this:
“We learned of the loss of your cat, Brighid, through a very thoughtful monetary tribute made to the Cornell Feline Health Center by…” (because I don’t have their permissions, I will respectfully omit the names of the Drs. at Linwood Animal Hospital, especially A who helped us release her before Biddie got to pain) “in your pet’s memory”
It goes on to say “Though Brighid is gone, we hope you will be comforted through the knowledge and significance of this pledge, which will help the center continue seeking to improve the health of cats. There could not be a better way to preserve the memory of your beloved pet than this meaningful tribute.”
I am still very sad about having no choice but to release her, however, if her passing will help other kitties live happy, healthy, long, lives then I am grateful for that almost as much as her pure, unconditional love…
the closest Gracie & Siouxsie have gotten without our little fireball trying to smack Gracie in the face (with both paws! 1 on each side).
Gracie’s almost 13 and Siouxsie is 9 months. Gracie is very laid back & sweet. Siouxsie is a blur of color & fur & she tries to be ferocious but she’s just too cute!
