clean out my closets

keep them that way!!!

has been cleaned out! then i moved on to the larger of the 2 bedroom closets (really more like a short, narrow hallway with shelves). i yanked EVERYTHING off the shelves & from right in front of the doorway & tossed it into my bedroom…what a mess i made!!! lmao but, once i was done, i had 1 trashbag filled with “stuff” that i don’t need, want, or use (some things i didn’t even like so don’t even ask why i bought them when i did a year or more ago)...the back of the closet is okay though, i really didn’t have to do much to it. there’s hooks along the wall on both sides with various sweatshirts & pullovers hanging up (as well as my wool cloak, our summer robes, and my wedding dress) and then in the very back is holiday decorations (which i needed to get to anyways) and a footlocker of seasonal clothes (which got cleared out a month or so ago & summer clothes dropped in)...1 closet left & the only thing in there is clothes hanging up that i need to go through…rule: if i haven’t worn it in a year, out it goes. the only exceptions are special occasion outfits/dresses that i do wear from time to time….but maybe i can give up that dk blue evening gown…i’ve had it 10 years & worn it 3 times…don’t think i really need to keep that…sigh why do i have this bizarre emotional attachment to clothing???

the living room closet…i told hubby i was going to do this today and that’s what i’m doing…i shall not allow myself to do anything until this closet is addressed…i’m going to say “hey, closet! clean up your act!!!” lmao and then i’m going to completely empty it. things will be separated into piles: File, Recycle, Shred, and Toss…

Shred goes to work (we have a shred it bin for confidential papers)
Toss is trash

we still have some things in boxes from when we moved almost 6 years ago…if we haven’t looked at or for it, it goes (nless it’s an irreplaceable collectible but there’s a special marked box for that)

if i haven’t used it, needed it, or even looked for it, in over a year it MUST go!!! that’s all there is to it! my 3 closets are not very big, however, they are very cluttered. the living room closet is sort of a dumping ground for “stuff i’ve cleared off the kitchen table in a rush” which translates to a mess on the floor of the tiny closet!
i need to go through it all, file what needs to be filed & toss what should be tossed
