Just finished a this week’s book which was a collection of annotated fairy tales (I dont know the name). Besides related readings for Myth, Magic, and Witchcraft class.
And I am halfway through Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet.
I think this week’s book will be Folk and Fairy Tale. It’s only 200 pages, so thats about thirty pages (with notes) a day.
Im kinda intimidated to keep pursuing this, but I know it is benefiting my artwork in many dimensions.

i was reading a blog the other day that talked about self education vs. school education.
to improve self-education, the author said that he intended to do four month study periods into a certain subject. and he would read a book a week.
so with that in mind, i intend to do the same thing in my self directed studies. until april, i will read up on mythology and fairy tales. it also helps that i am taking an myth, magic, and witchcraft class.
maybe i can read one non-fiction book a week, and one fiction book (that is mythological ) every two weeks. i think that might be helpful!

Perhaps I have a hard time completing goals because it seems like my priorities change every other day.
So this is an important goal of mine. I studied in London through the British education system for awhile and it seemed that their was a much more intense focus on independent research and critical analysis. I was looking over my London collection and I realized that I was much more motivated and hard working there then I am here. I think one aspect of that was the intense (drum roll please…)
self directed study!
So I would like to focus a bit more on a return to independent study.

my school’s influence on research and data is pretty dismal. its art school, but its quite fluffy and soft in many ways. so i have been spending time reseraching online, in journals and magazines, at the library, at the colors and materials library, at musuems, i think i am going to go to a tatoo parlor sometime soon to learn more about that process, even though its barely related. so i am learning this year how to really engage myself and my art in self directed study, its quite wonderful.
