Poetry Slam
Our local library hosts an eight month Poetry Slam every year. It is now in it’s 7th year. Last night the Slam was in my regional branch. I took the night off work and went. It was a lot of fun. Next month is the Grand Slam Finale in the main library. The finalist from the past seven months compete.
I had a lot of fun last night so I plan to go to the Grand Slam Finale in May.

For the first time I listened to The Poetry Foundation’s Avant-Garde All the Time podcast.
It featured the multimedia magazine Aspen. It is described as a “Three-dimensional” magazine.
It was produced from 1965 to 1971 and it has been reproduced on the web at http://www.ubu.com/aspen/
Aspen featured Warhol, the Velvets, and John Lennon twiddling the radio dial and much more multimedia fun from the 1960s.

I see that it has been 2 years since I first wrote about this goal. Even though I don’t write about it, I have been doing it. Poetry is something that I experience internally. Writing about how it affects me is fruitless.
I discovered a short podcast by Garrison Keillor. He talks about writers and reads a poem in each show.

I have also been enjoying “Good Poems for Hard Times.” It is an anthology of poems selected by Garrison Keillor.

This livejournal is great. http://www.livejournal.com/community/greatpoets/ I’ve seen some great poems that I would never seen otherwise.

Yesterday was another warm sunny autumn day, so, I took off from work early.
I stop by my regional library to browse. There was a flier “Now in its 5th year! Poetry Slams”. I had been intending to go to one of these since last year. They are held once a month for eight months at different libraries around the county. The “Grand Slam Finale” is at the Central library in May.
Serendipity, the October Slam was that night. It was a lot of fun. There is an “open mic” at the beginning where anyone can read any persons poems. Then there is the contest where people get up and read there own poems. I was a judge. (those who can’t, judge).
I plan to go to a few more. I really want to go to the “Grand Slam” in May. That is when all the winners compete.
