be a better Christian

I try to imagine Jesus sitting in the room with me and having a conversation with him, just me and my best friend.

I started volunteering at a prison this week. The staff and volunteers there are magnificent. The inmates were all very welcoming. I am working in the library and decided to act as much as possible as if this were any public library. The inmate workers I treated as volunteer staff. It was a great experience for all of us. I can not wait to go back next week. This may be a calling for me. Time and prayer will tell.

I spent several hours talking with a coworker last night. He is an older guy, mid 50’s, that has led a hard and troubled life. He was having trouble meeting people. I suggested several months ago, amoung other things, that he might start attending church. To my complete surprise he found a church within walking distance from his house that he feels really at home with.

We talked a lot about life and faith. When he went home I felt really blessed to have had that conversation.

What I’m trying to do here is set aside time to focus on my life
- both temporal and spiritual.

I try to imagine that Jesus is sitting here beside me, and I talk over with Him what has been going on for me.

I attempt to understand that in a myriad of ways, Jesus enters the everyday circumstances of my existence.

But life is fast and full.

Often, pressures and commitments, the ever present noise in my head drown out the little voice at my core. I know that. And I want to do something about it.

For now, Each day I try to become still and receptive to what His Presence might want to impart to me.

Each day I try to be open to Him molding me into the man He wants me to become and the life He wants me to lead.
