58/100 - On The Waterfront 3 years ago

The last movie to be seen in the top 10. At last. I had a bit of a tough time laying my hands on this one. It’s a fairly gritty account of life and (hopefully) work on the docks.

Kind of interesting, but I am more in the mood for something funny and happy at the moment. Oh well.

I’ll keep checking them off :)

57/100 - It Happened One Night 3 years ago

My dad lent me this on DVD. He said it was very good, and so did a couple of people on this goal. I wasn’t let down :)

Funny film, not just to say it’s from 1934, but actually funny on its own merits :)

It’s renewed my faith in old movies.

56/100 - Mr. Smith Goes To Washington 3 years ago

The original West Wing :)

First movie from the list I’ve watched in a couple of weeks. I find it quite amazing that Hubert has 8 kids… I’m surprised he managed to find a woman to give him 1!

My usual problems with this movie are just the usual ones for a film from this era. Black and white, strange speech, weird editing, old-fashioned editing and scene transitions.

Oh well.

“Awww heck, it’s a briefcase, Jeff!”

55/100 - Patton 3 years ago

Another war movie. The eponymous general is pretty damn awesome. Seems like a bit of a dick, but yeah, that’s obviously what’s needed sometimes. A bit of grit!

Cool movie. I’m just bothered that it’s taken me about 5 hours of pause/resume to get through it because of other things.

Go watch it if you haven’t already ;)

54/100 - Annie Hall 3 years ago

Woody Allen being his usual self.

Good if you can stand him… I can, in relatively small doses ;) An hour and a half is about as much as I can take.

53/100 - Silence Of The Lambs 3 years ago

A classic thriller already. Awesome film.

I saw the beginning of it once when I was young. I think it either didn’t interest me, or it scared me a bit because I didn’t watch more than about 5 minutes. All I remember from the first time is Jodie Foster running through a forest. Looking at the movie now I think I must have been a wuss back then ;)

52/100 - Midnight Cowboy 3 years ago

I’m not even through the opening credits of this movie and I can tell I’m going to enjoy it.

It makes me want to be back in the USA more than I can say. I want to go to a Drive-In movie again… Visit some American diner. Wear my old cowboy hat if I feel like it ;)

“Going where the weather suits my clothes” sigh

Update
Ok, haha, he goes to NYC to get laid… As soon as there’s space on my 43 things I know what I’ll be adding ;)

Double update
Ok, it’s not working out too well for him, scratch that from my list. I already have “live in New York City” on my list anyways.

Anyway, back to enjoying the movie.

51/100 - Rear Window 3 years ago

Another Alfred Hitchcock movie.

This one’s a little different. Quite interesting from a social studies point of view, really.

Interesting subject, well done (as you’d expect from Hitchcock).

“I made a simple statement… A true statement, and I can back it up if you’ll just shut up for a minute!”

One of my favourite lines ever.

50/100 - Psycho 3 years ago

Half way Woohoo!

Psycho is pretty interesting… There’s some of that quick-talk that you tend to get in old movies, and it’s not my favourite thing to hear, but oh well.

I like the film a lot and it’s definitely well worth a watch!

49/100 - Raging Bull 3 years ago

Cool movie. Pretty much Goodfellas in the boxing ring. Half of the same cast too ;)

Well worth a watch if you don’t mind the violence.
