42/50 - Haggis 9 months ago

Lizz ordered some haggis along with our shopping. :D It arrived today and so I invited Dave over to have some with me. I assume they advertised it prominently and stocked it because tomorrow is Burns Night. :)

It was a lot smaller than I imagined, although it did grow considerably while cooking.

I didn’t really like it very much. It was a bit like regular stuffing, with a hint of sewage or something. Blah.

Only 8 things remaining on the list now! It’s getting tough to check them off now. Oh well.

41/50 - Scallops 17 months ago

I saw these at the supermarket when I was shopping the other day. I thought “yay, more seafood for the list,” and bought it. It was really damn expensive, and guess what… It tasted just like fish. I ate some and threw the rest in the bin. The whole house smelled of fish for about 2 days. :(

I think there’s only a couple more fishy things left on the list now. :D

40/50 - Sushi 18 months ago

I was shopping for some lunch a little while ago when I spotted a little pack of sushi for sale. I bought it and ate it.

It was pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. Cold, fishy, with rice. Salty and hot because of the soy sauce mixed with Wasabi. I liked it enough, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to buy any more very soon.

Only 10 more left to go!

39/50 - Oysters 23 months ago

I bought live oysters at Asda the other day. I grilled them to death and then swallowed them tonight.

Not something I’m in a hurry to put in my mouth again.

38/50 - Jerk chicken/pork 2 years ago

I had some jerk chicken today. It was, as the sign said, “very good” :)

I’ve got a renewed interest in finishing off this list. It’ll probably be easier now I live in Nottingham. :)

Snails 2 years ago

Snails aren’t on this list, which is quite surprising… Most of the other things on the list are pretty disgusting too :P (sea food, yuck).

I ate them when I was in Strasbourg and I really had to think of this list, even though they’re not a part of it.

This list has made me try things I might otherwise have avoided… So it’s good.

37/50 - Lobster 2 years ago

I ate lobster yesterday. I had to crack open the shell, and it was pretty solid, surprisingly, even after being steamed.

I found it tastes a lot like squid, fish, mussels, and pretty much every other underwater animal I have consumed thus far.

Not worth the time it took to prepare, or the usual cost associated with it.

36/50 - Clam Chowder 2 years ago

Yuck.

Too much seafood on this list.

35/50 - Venison 3 years ago

I ate venison earlier. My mum bought it yesterday because she knew I was looking for it. So that’s good.

It tastes, to me, kind of like beef crossed with lamb. It’s alright, but I’ll stick with either beef or lamb.

Hey Bambi, where’s your mommy? I ATE HER!

Remaining foods 3 years ago

Rudolph has got it coming to him!

Lobster: Shouldn’t be overly difficult to find somewhere. Maybe more tough if I want to cook a live one myself.

Moreton Bay Bugs: This one is probably going to be the last one on my list. I’ve seen that they’re included in some expensive dishes here in England, but I wouldn’t have a clue where to go to try them.

Clam chowder: I should have had this when I had the chance in California. I haven’t seen it in England before. I suppose it should be possible to make it myself if I can find some clams.

Alligator: This will be one might be difficult, although some people have claimed it won’t be that tough. I’ll keep my eyes open.

Oysters: I have some in the house at the moment. I can’t remember if I ate oysters or mussels before so I bought both.

Venison: This can be bought in one of my local supermakets.

Guinea Pig: I have no trips to South America planned, but pet shops do sell them. I don’t know if I’m up to animal slaughter though… Then the whole gutting thing. I guess I’ll do it to check it off the list.

Shark: Shouldn’t be ridiculously difficult, I wouldn’t have thought. An expensive sea food restaurant. I should have eaten this at Legal Seafoods in Boston, MA.

Sushi: Shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Barramundi: Same as Shark, I think.

Reindeer: Someone I know has eaten this before, so I have quite high hopes that Santa will be looking for a new mode of transport this holiday season.

Scallops: Like Shark and Barramundi.

Australian Meat Pie: This might be tough… I’ll just go to Australia :)

Durian fruit: People have said this isn’t too difficult to lay your hands on… It’s apparently getting the smell off your hands afterwards that’s tough.

Jerk chicken/pork: Pretty simple, I would have though.

Haggis: Scotland’s not that far away…

So yeah, all in all I would expect to eat half of what’s left on my list without too much trouble. The remaining half may involve travelling thousands of miles.
