Ever since I was young, I was the one that people would come to in times of stress to unload on. I can remember being a teen and my friends would call me constantly seeking advice. Whereas some might find this draining, I always enjoyed helping others and it seemed to flow naturally.
I recently landed the position as a counselor for a crisis prevention program and I LOVE it! Although I am not quite done with my BA, my bosses decided to give me a shot since they know I will finish soon, and because they have faith that I can learn the necessary skills. But aside from the various trainings, I think that many good counselors I have met are just predisposed for this career. Certain traits come from within and cannot be taught or learned from a book.
I am now inspired to go all the way with my education and to possibly become a marriage, family and child therapist. I believe that I have a lot to offer this field, and am excited to conquer my future endeavors!
