Lara and I watched the whole Playmakers series on PVR over the last few weeks. Very very good series. And watching TV this way (i.e. only watching what’s been recorded) has drastically reduced our TV watching and subsequent time wasting. Good stuff.

Late last night while Lara slept on the couch beside me I blasted through a week’s worth of TV.
We record anything worth watching on our PVR, meaning I can dial up a week’s worth of the Daily Show or the three most recent episodes of Playmakers or Six Feet Under or “I Want a Famous Face”.
Anyway, I zap through commercials and only watch the highlights from each program, meaning what would normally be hours and hours of linear TV watching during the week can be boiled down to just a few useless late night hours on one night of the week.
Quite something and it frees up LOADS of time and mindshare for better stuff.
My wife Lara and I have made a pact that before either one of us turns on the TV or computer, we have to justify why we’re doing it. I.e. “To watch the program I recorded last night” or “To answer Kelly’s email”.
We’ve been doing this since last weekend and it’s worked quite well. We talk to each other more when we’re home and we’ve both been reading books as well, which doesn’t happen nearly enough.
