discover new music

it’s not new music by any means, but my friend has been telling me about them, put a bunch of their music on my computer and forced me to listen against my will. good thing i ended up really liking them in the end.

he also told me about the stooges and moondog. they’re pretty sweet.

both bands create lovable electronic/dance/rock music that can’t help but make me shake it.

i’ve discovered new awesomeness in the band hot chip. it’s really fun music that makes me want to dance if i’m at home or drive really fast if behind the wheel. their track “shake a fist” is the best. i heart them. :)

so i went to a concert last saturday. switchfoot headlined it. i have a lot more respect for them because they put on a hell of a live show. but i went to see emery! my mini dream came true. mini because they were the opening band and didn’t play a very long set, but they still blew my face off. :) i have to see them when they’re headlining. i also heard a new band named athlete who i think is very listen worthy. they were without their drummer for the night so it was an acoustic set, but it was really awesome. plus they were from london and we all know they know how to rock over there.

so when i go on myspace, i’ll sometimes click on a random band on the main page and check them out. this week’s pick is “does it offend you, yeah?” it’s very hard to describe their sound, indie dance rock maybe? but it’s definitely worth giving a listen to.

so, half of the music…more than half the music in my collection is by artists my friends have never heard of before. lots of indie/underground stuff. i love discovering new stuff that’s not the norm, stuff you would probably never hear on the radio. :) my recent discoveries are:

vampire weekend
the shout out louds
spoon
i love you but i’ve chosen darkness
british sea power
tokyo police club
