Hiatus 3 months ago

It’s nice taking a day off from the internet once in awhile, though this one was prompted by the migraine to end all migraines. After it broke, I decided to just roll with it and left the laptop off. I should really do this once in awhile when I’m NOT feeling under the weather, and you know, go out and DO SOMETHING. Right.

It was sort of nice being incommunicado (I also turned off my cell phone for the daY), though my inbox and Google Reader was out of control when I finally got to it today. Yikes.



This is HARD 6 months ago

Seriously, this has been the most difficult of goals. I really wasn’t expecting that. And now, with my back injury, I can literally spend HOURS doing nothing of substance online and have gotten in the habit of doing so.

This week, I’m seriously going to put a cap on general dicking around. Maybe give myself certain time-slots where I’m allowed to do those sorts of things? Geez, I dunno. I wont bore you with the details of that, should I decide to try it.

So really, the internet is my big time-waster. I don’t have a working television, so really it’s the MAIN source of my time-wastery. Reading news and checking blogs and sites and emails a few times a day is fine, but hours and hours of staring at the computer (unless I’m working on something specific) is not.

I download that Workrave thing so I can time myself and not get carried away. I have a lot of creative projects I’ve been putting off because I can’t pull myself away to start them. This must stop.

Other ideas:
- Taking laptop to places without wireless access to get writing stuff done.
- Using internet dicking-around as a “reward” for getting things accomplished.
- Have an internet detox, where I’m not allowed to do anything (except read email deemed important – like stuff from my lawyer or work) for an entire week.
