be fluent in French

I’ve just finished three semesters of intensive French but am still considered to have only “survival knowledge” of the language. It’s because my university course is based heavily on grammar skills, though we have given feedback that we would like to speak more in class, instead of the usual question and answer (by tutor) that goes something like:

Tutor (à moi): Qu’est-ce que tu manges ce matin?
Moi: J’ai mangé deux tranches du pain.
Tutor (à un autre étudiant): Qu’est-ce que tu manges ce matin? [...]

Still, being able to write a 250-word essay is better than nothing. I will be taking it in the next two semesters.

Am in first year of university now, and I’m going to major in French. Fluency, here I come!
