Not exactly start, but reactivate 7 months ago

When I finally make my mark on the music business, I would like to invest enough money to reactivate the Pye label. This was a very innovative and influential British based label active from the late 50’s till 1980. During its time it signed acts like Petula Clark, The Kinks, Sandie Shaw, Donovan, David Bowie, Status Quo, Brotherhood of Man, as well as many others who came and went. They were the first record label to manufacture stereo records in the UK, and also the first record label to successfully manage to store over 60 minutes worth of music on one single record.
The label was started by Alan Freeman (Tasmanian DJ who moved to the UK), New Zealand businessman Hilton Nixon (who ran the Nixa label which was merged with Pye), and had Tony Hatch as the chief A&R man during the 60’s who established it as a mainly middle-of-the-road label despite pioneering several influential rock acts.
After Pye was changed to PRT in the 80’s, its fortunes began to wane and in 1990 it closed down and its back catalog being shipped out to various budget labels and then Sanctuary Music in 2002 but even that company bit the dust five years later.
Sometimes, name changes can affect the success of an individual or a company (Prince being another one once he changed his moniker to some strange symbol and then The Artist Formerly Known As Prince). If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
