The Hangover Open (the annual New Years’ tournament at a nearby club) is coming up and the club owners are kind enough to let even people who have never tried saber borrow a weapon or two and have at it. I don’t care what M (the owner of my club) says about saber messing up my fencing; I don’t have a “real” tournament for at least a week after that and saber is so different from the other weapons that it won’t matter anyway. Tired of control freaks.
I’m really looking forward to this. There’s one other person from my club who is doing the same thing, but I’m far better than he is at foil (but he beats me in epee all the time) and I’m hoping to win in saber. And if I could beat some “real” saberists…I would probably fall over dead laughing. :)
Update (1/1/12): Decided at the last minute not to do the tournament, as I stayed up significantly past midnight for New Years and woke up at approximately the same time that the saber event was starting. I’ll have more chances later and it wasn’t worth the pain of getting up early. According to my clubmates who went, the only thing I missed was seeing my friend C. show up in a kilt. Hm…
