Here’s the deep, dark truth about me: I love dessert, and I’m not willing to give it up no matter how healthy it would be for me to do so. Let’s face it, really good chocolate is one of the things that make life worthwhile!
I love chocolate ice cream. I love brownies. I love all kinds of things that are bad for me. But I’ve realized that I also eat other unhealthy food that I don’t particularly love, just because I’m bored or because someone else bought it and it’s sitting there looking at me.
So here’s my idea: if I’m really, truly going to enjoy eating something decadent, then I revel in it and skip the guilt. But if I find myself mindlessly munching something that I’m only eating because it’s there and not because it’s special, then it’s OK to throw it out half finished, even if it feels wasteful. If I’m not going to miss it, I’ll just let it go.
