Plan my ESL practica

I start the final practicum on Monday. I guess technically I could check this goal off now, since I have planned all the practica. And I will, cuz it feels good to check stuff off!

last Friday. Was very fruitful! Looking forward to it. By the end of November I will be done with the license. Yeah!

This one is almost done. In six weeks I will actually be able to check it off! Yippee! I will be doing my placement in a K-3 school in St. Paul doing coteaching of readers’ workshop and writers’ workshop. Should be good.

I guess there is a delay. Waiting to hear on the placement, but it will still happen in November.

My goodness, things are always different. Last year I was told to set up my own practicum when I wanted help, and this year I was told I’m not allowed to set up my own. Geez.

Anyway, of course all different people are also doing all the supervising and whatnot, so I just got in touch with them.

I also registered for the credits, which is a big load off my mind, since last year it was troublesome.

By December I will be able to check this done and will be a teacher licensed in both Spanish and ESL. Will be nice to have it done and nice to have a little back-up license.

to my university practicum supervisor. 2 credits/30 hours left to finish off this license. Ready to get ‘er done.

Looking like the remaining portion will have to happen in summer. Too bad, I’d like to get it done. Oh well!

Spring will be tight, but if my supervisor can help me find a placement, it might work out. I’d rather do it in spring than in summer school – summer school has a shorter day so it means more days of teaching. Plus I guess if I had a license done this spring I could apply for a summer school job if I wanted – at least I would get paid to be there then! That’d be ok!

In a few minutes I am off to start my first placement at a 7th & 8th grade middle school. Excited! Would like to write more but I need to leave . . . :)

Who is the mother of one of my former students. I think it will be a positive experience – in a 7th & 8th grade middle school in the city. Worlds different than the largely homogeneous, suburban K-6 school I currently teach in. It will be 8 days in November. Should be good . . . I’m excited to get new ideas and work with different kids in a different setting, even if for a brief time.

Now I do need to schedule the one required observation with my University supervisor.

Thinking I’ll do the elementary portion in March if I can swing it (if enough hours are available given their spring break, etc.).
