write a legislator once a week

about the proposed Lake Vermilion State Park. Hope it happens!

I didn’t do this nearly once a week during the recent state session, but I did probably write three or four letters/thank-you cards throughout the winter and spring. And that was more than when I put up this goal. So that’s good!

to send some letters and also sent some e-mails. I hope that I can write more when I’m home from my trip.

Well, my first e-mail. But having them set up on the computer made it go quickly. I emailed my city councilmember about a living wage ordinance up for approval tonight. Goody!

I did some prep work for this today. I looked up and entered all my elected officials’ addresses in my address book. I then created a template to use to write the letters in Word. So all I have to do is open my template, insert the official’s address using my address book, and write my message. I can also quickly do an envelope this way. Hopefully having this system down will help me be able to drop quick letters in the mail, as it’s said that this is more effective than an e-mail. Now the next step will be to keep up on current issues a little better, so that what I’m writing is timely!

I saw the movie Jesus Camp on Saturday and now this goal is far more real to me. Those people speak up about what’s important to them and I need to do the same.
