master CSS

Well, I’m feeling pretty good about what I’ve been able to build, but I don’t think I can say I’ve mastered it because there’s just so much to learn. I’ll keep on working at it and come back to this goal in a month or two.

it’s such a pain coding proper, elegant, compliant CSS and then having to go back and butcher it because so many people are using IE :o( Grrrrr!

All summer the view out the window kept pulling me outside for a spot of gardening, or a walk, or some other excuse for fresh air and sunshine. No more of that. Back to the geeking ;o)

I love CSS but I need to be able to check my designs on IE (spit spit) and other browsers to make sure they work for the majority of users out there.

Instead of picking one design for my own site I’m letting visitors pick from a number of alternatives (as long as they have JavaScript and cookies enabled)

I feel confident that I’ve learnt the basics, now I have to get really sharp at it.

I decided that since IE 7 finally supports position: fixed; I’d just go ahead and use it and anyone with IE 6 or earlier will just have to live with some scrolling.

The screen display is fine but the print layout that works perfectly in Firefox is a bust in Safari and I can’t figure out why. Not a deal breaker for putting up the site, no reason anyone should want to print from it anyway, but if I’m going to have print layouts they should work for all reasonable browsers.

No menus and a watermark over the image (it’s an artist’s gallery). I’ll put up a link once it’s loaded up on his host. Also trying out a Javascript hack to get IE/Windows to do max-width (finger’s crossed).

I guess it’s just practice now. Making lots of web pages until I can really say I’ve got it mastered. So … have I completed ‘learn CSS’? Hmmm, you know, I’ll wait until I’ve got this friend’s site up and running so I can post a link to it here, then I’ll call this goal completed :o)
