I’ve spent about 4 hours a night for a few nights this week cleaning and decluttering and reorganizing. A casual observer might not see much of a difference (sigh… so much left to do) but I can see it and I feel encouraged, if slightly out of place, lol. Doesn’t it just figure that as I’m cleaning things up, I realize that I don’t really know how to live that way? That’s actually a pretty depressing thought, now that I think of it… I’m going to go clean some more now so I can get used to living life without being weighted down by stuff.

I found out yesterday that in 5 weeks or less, my mom is getting a storage unit and moving in with her parents. This means that while I am 3 hours away at school, I need to find time in the next few weekends to go home and go through my remaining stuff and figure out where it’s going to go (likely my father’s house)
I’ve gotten rid of 2 BIG bags of pure garbage, and 2 more bags of clothes and shoes that I gave away to charity. And yet, my room still isn’t anywhere near decluttered. I really don’t know how it all piled up into this insane amount of stuff that I have, but I’m working on whittling it down to what I can reasonably take with me to my college dorm room and not leaving much else to sit and gather dust in my wake.
I am really wanting to move out of my parents’ house for good here soon… or at least for a good long while. Either way, I need to do some serious sorting and pitching because my car will not fit everything I own in even 2 trips, so I’ve gotta go through and trim down my stuff, get it organized into how I’ll want to pack it and all that fun stuff. Even if I don’t move out this winter yet, I’ll be gone by the end of the winter/spring semester at school (May) and to a different city 2 hours away, and I don’t want to have to make that drive more times than I have to… So, I’m starting now, when I only have to work 20 or so hours a week, and don’t have school. I’m planning on taking a few classes at a community college in January, and that will take up a pretty decent chunk of time as well that I need to start using to organize my stuff.
the next few hours until i have to babysit will be spent cleaning my room and weeding things out that I don’t really need and are just taking up valuable room.
I think the biggest reason that I want to sort through my stuff isn’t that I want more room or less stuff. I think it’s because as I sort through the physical stuff that’s accumulated, I can sort through the emotional stuff that’s piled up with the it. Sorting through the stuff helps me get back with who I am, instead of the person I’ve become.
I hate walking into my room and feeling more stressed than when I came into what is supposed to be my safe haven. I have too much STUFF. That’s all it really is, I don’t need half of it. My room is being taken over and I want to reclaim it. I’ve been trying to work on it bit by bit but it’s hard seeing as how I’ve been out of town and house-sitting the majority of this month. As soon as this week is over and I’m back home, I’m going to do some serious work on my room and make it be what it’s supposed to be- the home of ME, not my stuff.
