16. Take a break. I went on vacation last week in Florida, didn’t even bring a notebook with me. I am sooo refreshed, I need to write again, it’s in my blood, and taking a break from everything I need to do, and from trying to come up with something… I’m inspired again.
17. drive through Tennessee and Kentucky and enjoy the scenery. OK, so it was a 16-hour drive from OH to FL and vice-versa, but in those two states, my breath was taken away by the scenery. It’s amazing how intricate God’s detailing is, just look into a valley from above, look at the seemingly unending treeline- really look at it- none of them look the same, it’s beauty, plain and simple.
18. Spend time with people less fortunate than yourself. Some would disagree that I did, in fact, do this last week. See, I got to go to Florida because my friend’s family was going and they brought me along for cheap because I do NOT have that much money. But it was so sad to spend time with them as a family… I am so richly blessed with a loving family, it amazed me to see something that wasn’t that dynamic at all… I count myself more fortunate and I’m glad I got to go this week, I got a much better appreciation for what I have.
19. stay up all night. You will be very creative the next day (make sure you have plenty of caffeine on hand also) and will be inspired in some sort.
20. Talk to your best friend. If you don’t have one, call up an old friend you haven’t talked to in a while just to say hi.
11. spend a long period of time in a car, as a passenger. Look at the scenery, get lost in thought, crank up the music and let it flow through you so the meaning sinks in… anything. And if the seats are uncomfortable, I can almost guarantee you that you will want to do something when you get out of the confines of the vehicle.
12. Spend time with people you love. I spent the weekend with some people I consider my extended family, and it was absolutely rejuvinating! I came away feeling a little sad that I had to leave them for a while again, but was inspired to do something again! It just gives you such a lift to be with people who love you and care for you no matter what, which we often don’t get to experience on a regular basis (at least I don’t)... it’s so great…
13. talk late into the night on random (enjoyable) subjects… just do it.
14. Stop to smell the tulips
15. go people-watching
1. spend time with a young child, not trying to instruct them in anything, just playing with them, talking to them, letting yourself see the world the way they do.
2. look at life from a different perspective. Get down on your hands and knees and crawl, or get a wheelchair for a day. Buy a pair of platform shoes (for us short people) and look at the world from a few inches up… it really does make a difference!
3. Watch someone paint or draw a picture.
4. find a picture you like and try to copy it with colored pencils, markers, and crayons.
5. take a road trip, for even just an hour, go the scenic route, not on the interstate, see what you can see
6. be a tourist in your own city or town. go the the zoo or art museum or whatever your town has that’s a tourist trap, and see it from the eyes of a newcomer
7. find your favorite story from when you were a child and read it and let yourself get sucked into that world for a little while
8. scribble!
9. find a fun coloring book and color outside the lines, not paying attention to what the colors “should be” and just have fun coloring
10. dance in the rain. alone or with a partner, it doesn’t matter.
