i got my new permit and i called the driving school. it’s $245 for five hours (if i need that many). my mother won’t give me any money to help or even give me my money. so i’m going to kick her in the teeth the next time i see her. but for now, i have so scrape and save to afford lessons before i start school in april. i should be able to do them sometime next month though.

i drove with my MIL yesterday. it wasn’t far, just from the shopping center to the house (two or three miles i suppose), but she said i did well. nothing stood out as being wrong and though i looked a little tense at first (as most people would when first driving in a new car) i eased up quickly and did fine. i pulled into the driveway a little crooked, but i’m not great at parking in a straight line. it’ll come.
i’m xstill waiting to get my change of address confirmation from the post office, but you can bet that when i do i’ll be going out to the dmv as soon as i can. i just hope this one will give me a better picture…yeah right…
i’m applying for a change of address so that (once i get confirmation from the post office) i can go to the dmv and get my VA permit. i don’t know if i said this already, but because i’m over 19 i only have to hold it for two months before i can take a road test, though i don’t know if a month would be enough time to be prepared. but once i have my permit here, i’m going to call up the driving school for lessons. it’s 7 hours total one-on-one driving time for $310 or something like that, which i think is reasonable since i paid way more to learn when i lived in new york. i should have a VA permit within two weeks, so i’ll post again when i do.
i looked around on the dmv website last night/this morning and found out that if you’re over 19 here and you had a permit in another state, you only have to hold a VA permit for thirty days before you can take you driving test and classroom time isn’t required.
this makes me happy because if i fill out a change of addy form so i’m officially a resident, i can go get my permit and take the driving course (hopefully on top of practicing with my fiancee and/or his mom).
you can also take the road test three times over a three month period which is good incase i fail (honestly, if i do fail i’d rather it be an automatic fail because i didn’t check my mirrors rather than just being completely full of suck), but i’m hopefully that i’ll do well. i’m not too bad now and with a bit more practice (like what you might get with a month or rwo of driving instruction and practice with your fam) i’m sure i’ll do fine. itook a practice written test on the website to see how i might do when i take it for my permit and only missed two. not bad for not having read up on traffic laws in a few years. so yay me. i’m feeling good about this. (wow, i’m so much more productive when my honey is busy working, lol)
my sweetie is going out of town for two weeks, which means i won’t be able to drive with him, but i made a deal with his mother. she’ll take me out a couple of times a week as long as i clean up my living space (for mine is a room filled with clothes that have no proper place, paperwork piled in corners, and cat toys in every availble nook and cranny). she also told me to check out the VA dmv website and see about getting a learners permit here (a thing i was lothe to do because i had heard that you had to wait 6 months to get your license afterward, though she thinks that’s only if your under twenty and even if it’s true that all my years of having my other permit might carry over) since i should probably get one anyway so i count as a resident finally. if i get a permit here i might even drop the cash to take lessons again (they’re pretty cheap here, which is always nice) so i might be driving before the holidays. i’ll keep posting and doing everything i can to get back on the road.
the other day i drove from our house up to the shop, which is mabee five miles away. my fiance said that aside from my awkward starting and stopping, i did pretty well. oh, and i also park like a moron, but most people do anyway. i felt pretty comfortable the whole time too, and i do better than some people who’ve been driving for a while. he thinks i’m too slow, but i don’t want to go over the speed limit unless i’m behind someone going faster because i don’t want to lose my permit and have to wait forever to get it back because i got a ticket. i’m excited to go out again and hopefully we will soon. i told him i’d like to practice at least twice a week. his younger brother (who is trying to get his license too) has been going out three time a week for the past couple of weeks and just passed his practice test (though just barely) so i figure if i practice like this for a month or so, i’ll have my license in no time.
i’ve been taking anxiety pills a few hours before i drive and i’m doing a lot better. unfortunately it is now winter and as i live in new york i haven’t been able to practice in a while. i’ll probably actually get my license once i move down south but i’m glad to say i’ve been doing much better.
am currently trying to find the best deal from a driving school and make sure they will pick me up as i lve in the middle of nowhere. it’s hard to find the time to get lessons when my whole life is about going to see my boyfriend. but i’m going to see him in about a week then get lessons. i’ll try to make an appointment before i leave at least.
