In addition to the aforementioned lunacy, I also need money for professional liability insurance. It’s an annual expense that happens at the same time of year as when the government has its hand out for taxes. I know I need 17 bucks a month socked away for insurance to prevent the panic, and I’d need about 100 a month for taxes not to be a five alarm panic. I’m not totally sure what tuition would cost if I were to return to school but I’d guess 2500 to 5000. anybody got a calculator?...didn’t think so. Okay, I’m…62.5 to 125 a month. Even with three plus years to cough it up that’s one boatload of money. But there we go. All told I need for my business to have a savings of its own in the amount of 179.5 to 242 a month to prevent future crises and/or panics.
I’ve been a massage therapist for almost a decade. I have never had a license. None is required, and until recently none was available. Now there is voluntary state licensure, which I don’t give a rat’s patoot about obtaining, but there’s talk of it eventually becoming mandatory. I couldn’t be grandfathered in when that was being offered because I couldn’t document 1000 hours’ professional experience, to put that question to rest. Unless it’s going to become mandatory, I am not going to apply, but since idiotic things happen to me frequently, I need to be prepared with a plan to get more education (in other words, a piece of paper for the state’s amusement) if it does happen.
From what I’ve read you can get certified with 250 clock hours by the end of 2015, then it goes up to 500. (i don’t object to continuing education but this is excessive. NO ONE NEEDS THIS MUCH FORMAL TRAINING.) So the question then becomes, if they make this mandatory, are they going to do it before or after that time?
Well right now I don’t have the time or the money for any more training. I guess my business should really have a savings account of its own anyway, so perhaps I should start thinking on saving enough by the end of 2015 to get a 250 hour certificate at a local school.
