learn Russian

another russian lesson. my head is spinning. aaarrrgh. so tired. I have done the whole of Tatjana’s Letter Scene though, and tomorrow we go through a literal translation. and then i’m on my own.

Met up with Helen today to get the pronunciation happening for Tatjana’s Letter Scene. We got halfway through in an hour and a half. Bloody hell. It’s a start though!

I called K’s friend and made an appointment for her to help me with translation/pronunciation of this aria. She’s a strange girl (I found when I was in Italy that every Russian I met had an odd, abrupt sense of humour!) but I reckon we’ll get along Ok. I’m also using websites to learn the Cyrillic alphabet. Found out yesterday that my sister majored in Russian at uni. My sister also got her letters in piano and learning piano is one of my goals – if only we’d swapped lives for a while! Never mind.

borrowed a book from a friend – a basic Penguin Russian course. It looks kind of boring but straightforward. My first task will be to copy out the alphabet and learn every symbol and it’s pronunciation – maybe flashcards would help. I also SMSd a friend who has a friend who is teaching her Russian – she’ll (the friend) be able to help me translate arias and stuff.
