join an orchestra

thanks gosheshe, yeah i’m in germany, but i’m from america, which is why it’s “overseas” for me.

I have been meaning to call all week, but i’ve had to work extra late a couple days and i’m still scared to call him back. I’ve been mulling over just emailing but I know I really NEED to talk to him. I already emailed once a long time ago and got no answer.

So I wrote to somebody from the city, and she gave me the phone number for the guy who runs the school. She said “he’s on vacation right now, but he would love to hear from you – he even fowarded his office phone to his home phone.” So I called him last week, and spewed out “hi, my name is.. blah blah and I play the bass, just moved here from america… and I was given your phone number, and I was wondering how I can sign up for somthing… ” and then, as soon as I gave him a pause, he goes “have you looked at the clock?” (it was 8:30pm) and I was like, ... well, yeah… but I didn’t think it was that late, I didn’t mean to disturb you! Should I call back tommorrow earlier?

and he goes “I’ll be back in my office on the 29th, you can call me then.” and then he hung up!!!!!!!!!!! I was completely deflated… here I was all excited about maybe getting some clue about what I have to do, and maybe even getting to rent an instrument right away… and he was so mean!!! I really thought he was super into his music, and would love to hear from anybody who was interested. But no. Typical German: At home is my freetime, and at the office is my work-time. BLAH.

After hanging up I wanted to go and cry but I know if I did that it would be letting his meanness get to me.

I just moved to a new city and don’t even own an instrument… (I play the bass so I had to leave it behind becasue it was too expensive to ship overseas)
So that’s a huge barrier.

BUT I found a music school here which lends out instruments in special cases!! So I’m hoping I can get one as soon as the school opens back up in August.
