I had the closest thing to fast food I can think of by eating Subway today. I tend to eat a lot so I had a double meat sandwich, but it’s not nearly as bad as what I would normally get at Mickey D’s anyway.
Tonight I was able to drive past “restaurant row” (which consists of Mickey D’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell/KFC in less than a 1/4 mile) and just wave. SWEET!

I had my first real test last night on my way home. I was starving when I left work (as usual), and the norm is for me to take the long way home and pass by four different fast food joints. My biggest vice is stopping at McDonald’s and hitting up the value menu (two McChicken’s and a double cheeseburger… yum). ANYWAY… this time I managed to stay away!!
While it may not seem like much, it was a huge mental win for me.

I tend to be a comfort eater, and fast food is my food of choice. I’m amazed that I don’t eat fast food every day, but I have my binges where it may be two or three days in a row. Considering some of my other goals (working out, a nice six pack, etc.) this goes hand in hand. I’ve seen a few other posts with the following rule, and this is what I’m going to stick with:
Restaurant with drive through = Fast Food
I know this can be somewhat dicey since there are plenty of places with food that will clog your arteries. Here’s some additions I’m going to make separately:
- Food from Dunkin’ Donuts other than bagels – I love me a Maple Chedder Sandwich, but if that’s not fast food I don’t know what is.
- Panera Bread’s broccoli chedder soup – While not really fast food, that is a liquid heart attack. Combined with a soup bowl you’re done on calories for the day. It’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s for the best.
I’ll probably be adding more as this continues.
