I never use the stars that WinAmp offers to rate mp3s, so I got the idea to use them to keep track of which organising steps I’ve completed. There are so many things I want to do to each file, e.g. tag the artist and title, rename the file, tag the language, listen to check the quality, etc. I was using text files to make checklists for each file, but it was too complicated. I think if I just make a list of five steps, then I can use one star to show me that step one has been completed, two stars for step two, and so on.

My music has been somewhat decently organized (but nowhere near perfect) in the past, but now, after changing computers twice in the past year and a half, it’s worse than ever. Duplicate files, with everything spread out on two hard drives as well as on several burned CD’s; it’s overwhelming to think about dealing with it.
What’s really hard is coming up with a system. There’s always some songs that don’t fit well. I think I’m close to having something worked out, though.
