Why this is important

I really need to do a better job of this. I had wanted to at least keep all new photos organised. So, I was waiting to download the photos off my camera until I had time to organise them at the same time. Big mistake. I lost my camera, as well as far more pictures that I should have.

Geotagging

Just found this nifty device to help with geotagging of future photos. I so wish I could afford it right now.

Keeping up

I just started going through all the photos from about the last two months. I optimized the files, rotated the ones that needed to be rotated, and deleted the ones I didn’t want to keep. Now I need to add metadata and sort them into directories. There’re 210 of them after deletions.

I wished I’d done this sooner. If I can’t keep up with the new ones, I’ll never be able to organize the old ones.

Too many

I think one of my problems is that I feel I have to save every single photo. I think, for example, when I take several photos of the same thing in case some of them don’t come out right, I need to learn to delete all but the best one.

If that’s too difficult, I could at least separate them out so at the least I won’t feel the need to tag them with metadata.

Not too bad

I usually keep my photos pretty organized. I’ve slacked off lately and need to sort through a few. The big thing I need to do, though, is tag everything, but I don’t know how I want to go about it. I’ll certainly include names of people. I’ll include city/state/country. I’d like to include latitude and longitude if I can figure it out.

I’m worried about going overboard and tagging photos with every single discernable object. While that wouldn’t be useful for me, it might be useful if someone else is searching for photos of a particular thing at one of the online sites where I post photos. It’d be too much work, though, so I have to figure where to draw the line on what to include. I also have to figure out a controlled vocabulary so I can be consistant and to avoid redundancy.
