It’s Christmas season and I’m spending just as much money on romantic trips, taxis, grog, and CDs as I am on my friends.
Eftpos mania. Seriously. Online shopping is my tragic flaw.
Since September 12th:
t.A.T.u.: Весёлые Улыбки
The Cranberries: No Need To Argue
Goldfrapp: Black Cherry (single)
Blink-182: Greatest Hits (it was for charity!)
There’s Something About Mary O.S.T.
Regina Spektor: Begin To Hope
The Dandy Warhols: Welcome To The Monkey House
Gorillaz: Gorillaz
Gorillaz: Demon Days (this is alright, because I’m seeing them in a fortnight, and it was stuff that was on the old computer that I’m sort of paying off as per the original goal)
Various Artist: Absolute Boys
Offspring: Smash
Reservoir Dogs O.S.T.
Explosions In The Sky: All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Mogwai: The Hawk Is Howling
MGMT: Oracular Spectacular
Scala & Kolacny Brothers: Dream On
Scala & Kolacny Brothers: It All Leads To This
I bought two copies of Friday Night Lights because I forgot I’d already like, redeemed myself for that one.
I also downloaded the Dungeon Siege O.S.T. because I couldn’t find where to buy it, and won a copy of f.b.I.’s Kill Your Idols. :)
Now for a cheap and lousy mp3 player so I can review the podcasts iTunes U material I downloaded to see if it’s worth getting an iPod touch.
I’m kind of proud and ashamed at the same time.

I bought La Roux a few months ago.
For Christmas I received, Splinter, Conspiracy of One, and Ixnay on the Hombre by the Offspring; The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place by Explosions in the Sky; Mr. Beast by Mogwai, Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, and my favourite, Santigold’s eponymous debut.
I hope to be working by February, and purchasing music is a very high priority for me, as well as staple clothing, and classic books.

So I’ve known for a while that just acquiring hard copies of my music isn’t good enough compensation.
When I get a job I will sync my iPod with my empty laptop, and if I want the music I’m used to listening to, I’ll have to buy it from the shops or directly off Amazon.
EXCEPT.. what of the artists who only have one good song? Singles in shops are a rip-off, and what if I change my mind? But I don’t like paying money and having nothing in my hand to show for it – especially if the music might disappear! I’m a native to all this technology but I often don’t trust it at all.

Birthday in 2008: Ratatat: ‘Ratatat’, ‘Classics’
Ebay in 2009: Goldfrapp: ‘Felt Mountain’ (two copies by accident), The Offspring: ‘Americana’
Birthday in 2009: Radiohead: ‘OK Computer’
Random gift in 2009: Radiohead: ‘Hail to the Thief’, tickets to Ratatat at Manning Bar! :D
Mr. Fahrenheit observed that only about 8% of the funds spent on those CDs will actually go to the band, and I’d be better off simply sending them a ten dollar note or three. Hmm. Whatever, I like the shiny covers.
