I’m doing pretty good. Linux is funny, something breaks daily. Today was postgresql-8.1, it seems there was a conflict in my upgrade. A simple—purge then reinstall fixed the problem.
You have to hit the commandline to fix almost all problems.
I don’t know whether or not I’m getting good at commands, but I sure an getting good at searching forums.

I used the President’s Day sales to scoop me a sweet little Dell Inspiron 700M for a cheap price at a Computer Sale. Gonna install Kubuntu this weekend.
I’m psyched!

I used this article to get my rails set-up running on Ubuntu.
The other articles I’ve read were geared toward setting up rails with a new, server install of ubuntu. This article deals with setting up ubuntu on an existing desktop install.

A found article about running your favorite Linux on Windows using VMWare.
I’ve tried out a few virtual environments before and most are terribly slow. Tapping out this post through VMware…it’s okay. no substitute for booting into linux; but it is nice for work, where I can jump to a prompt to work through a python tutorial during down time.

I got Yoper linux up and running on my laptop. Yoper’s a pretty slick OS so far. Before Yoper I’ve tried Xandros, Ubuntu, and Suse installs. The Suse install failed.
I really like the evolution 17 window manager on the elive CD. If I can find a distro that uses it, I’ll give that a try next.
