Learn to knit

So, I’ve been knitting on and off for a year now but I’m definitely not ready to say I’ve done it yet! I’ve got knitting, purling, casting on and off, increasing, decreasing and cabling down. But I still want to learn to use circular kneedles and make socks and hats and what not. And I haven’t even attempted to alter a patern yet, it just boggles my mind. So I still have a lot to learn. I did ALMOST knit this beautiful cable scarf for my boyfriend… but at about the 3/4 mark it got stuck in the knitting basket and WOULD NOT come loose. I almost cried… sigh

I taught myself to purl and now I’m working on a checkerboard pattern blanket for my puppy. It’s going pretty good but for some reason the squares for the checkerboard came out a little too rectangular. Oh well, I don’t think my doggy will care! I have another class this weekend, can’t wait!

Since my last knitting class I’ve knitted about half of a scarf. Tomorrow I have my second class and I’m so excited to learn about purling and casting off.

Ok… kinda. Last night my boyfriend and I went to our knitting class and it was really fun! We learned to cast on and to knit but we didn’t get to purling or casting off. Hopefully next time! I can’t believe I can make something that actually looks knitted after a two hour class… it’s awesome!

Today I practiced casting on… the book showed two different ways to do it but the first way made no sense to me no matter how much I tried. The second way was much easier but it came out looking really sloppy. I think I’m going to wait until the class to make sure I’m doing it right.

My boyfriend and I signed up for a knitting class at the local craft store. It’s only a one-time class but since neither of us have any experience at all I think it will be a good start. We bought our knitting needles, yarn, and books today. Can’t wait for the class!
