A much longer trip this time, and we went through a few rapids with whirlpools (and yes, we capsized). The river ended up flooding a few days later, so we were lucky we went when we did.
I felt this time it was much easier, but that could have been the current taking us. Not so much time to take photos.
I think i’d like to try kayaking in the open ocean with the waves… my brother tried that recently and he said it was a totally different experience.

I thought the muscles of my general shoulder/arm region were pretty friggin’ good. Kayaking taught me otherwise. Haven’t been since I was a wee lass, and as my mother has constantly reminded me, your body ages but your mind doesn’t.
It was Shigehiko’s first kayaking experience, and sad to say, despite my confidence level (having gone several times as a teenager), he certainly humbled me in terms of muscle power and general endurance.
I just gave up lots and said I wanted to take photos of the scenery. (Ha Long Bay is quite a beautiful place and makes for some great photography) And while that was true to a certain extent, I certainly didn’t need to stop every 5 bloody minutes.
So my next trip to Cambodia/Thailand/Laos will also have a kayaking adventure… but perhaps this time I will take into consideration that I am not a pro, and perhaps tubing in Laos will be a little more my pace. But i’m not giving up yet.
