Since I moved here in Northern California I wanted to volunteer at the library, but I hesitated because I hadn’t had received my work permit yet.
Now that I’ve received my green card I dared to go to the library and inquire into volunteering…The lady at the desk was so sweet. She seemed glad to give me a phone number of a lady I was supposed to call who was in charge of volunteering team. She said that they’re looking for people who are able to volunteer on a regular basis, not just sporadically. I was so encouraged by that because I was more than available even for 4-5 day a week.
That was Thursday, yesterday. The lady on the phone didn’t sound as excited as I expected…and I was about to tell her that I would start tomorrow (Friday) if she wanted me and would be available even on the week-ends.
She asked me if I wanted my name on the waiting list…a 25 people waiting list. “Yeah, please’, I said, but I was so disappointed I felt my heart fall in my boots.
This was my library experience…I am NOT losing hope yet.
One day I am going to work there God willing…even if that requires years of volunteering.
Can’t give up my childhood dream. No way.
