Ever since my three best friends and I drove from New York to Detroit (and back) a couple of years ago, I’ve wanted to take a legitimate, no-bullshit, open-ended, open-minded, anything-fucking-goes Road Trip with a group of close friends. I think two to four people seems about right. Maybe there could be a theme to the trip – to our destinations, our activities, our overall concept. Or we could document the trip in some creative way – something artistic or even abstract. I’d like to have some underlying objectives and plans before taking off, but I’d also need to leave plenty of room for improvisation and impulse. I can’t help it! The notion of such a trip just appeals to my fundamentally nomadic nature.
Ideally, this trip will take place in the States, since, as a US citizen, I don’t know how smart or feasible it would be to roadtrip across Europe. For such an endeavor, I think the traditional hostel and public transit method would be best. Cars and licenses and permits tend to complicate things in border-crossing situations. I hate being interrogated by borders police as they tend to be particularly prickish. So, since, for the time being, I’m indefinitely overseas, it’ll likely be some time before I am able to realize this goal, but, ya know … One Of These Days.
