I think I just went up a shoe size 3 years ago

I bought Duchy Original biscuits. Organic and fairtrade and flown in from the other side of the planet.

All about energy and food 3 years ago

Last week: planting heritage strawberry runners so I can grow my own instead of having strawberries shipped from queensland (plus, heritage ones are meant to be tastier).

Converted someone to using green electricity.

Installed LED fittings in my downlights to replace halogen globes (however, that means I’m using less green electricity – d’oh!).

Taking charge of the new office project so that new lightswitches go in and boss doesn’t get a choice (hehehe!)

This week: Trying to eat seasonally – it’s winter, so time to rejoice in pumpkin, potatoes and other winter vegies rather than beans and lettuce.

Stirring my compost.

Writing a letter to my prime minister telling him he’s a complete dickhead to support nuclear power.

Last week: Farmers Market again. This time I walked there and caught the tram back.

This week: trying to find a safe way to walk home from work when it’s dark; nurturing my garlic plants; and bullying my boss into implementing energy savings measures at work. Like, why would we spend $50,000 on glass partitions to preserve the daylighting if we aren’t going to spend $100 on lightswitches so that lights can be turned off when there’s enough daylighting? Huh?

THis week – organic vegies from the farmers market. Definitely worth it for the atmosphere alone.

Next week – will travel to the farmers market by handy public transport instead of driving

Very excited about reusable pads and organic cotton tampons right now

I tested mine online at www.ecologic.com and it’s at 3 (ie, it takes three hectares of land to sustain my lifestyle).

The Australian average is 10 – I think I do so well because I use green power and don’t drive or take the bus much.

The amount that’s sustainable with the current world population is 1.9.

The areas I can do better in are waste (reduce packaging, reuse, recycle); flying (do less); and food (find more locally grown in season produce).

I’m wondering if I can discount all the flying I do for work? Or discount it if I offset it through www.climatefriendly.com?
