What do I think a healthy lifestyle looks like?

I have been thinking today about what a healthy lifestyle would look like and how I can make changes to the lifestyle I lead at the moment. I am going to work towards living a healthier lifestyle but feel I need to have some kind of idea how that should be, before I can make changes. So I think a healthy lifestyle includes:

  • getting enough sleep every night
  • drinking water
  • eating freshly prepared food in a balanced diet
  • avoiding processed food with lots of additives and chemicals
  • eating fruit and vegetables daily
  • being active doing things I enjoy

I see what I need to do and I am going to work on the above points through August and see how I do. I have developed a tracking sheet so I can see how I manage!



The Last Few Weeks 2 years ago

I have been trying to drink more water, plan my meals and walk my dog everyday. I even looked up some classes for belly dancing and swimming times at the local pool.

I have been walking the dog daily in the morning before work…and I’m more likely to drink water than opt for pop or juice. The menu planning is going ok but sometimes I get a craving for something.

I feel healthier and though it may not be showing on my body I do have more energy and my mind feels clearer and more alert. Just gonna have to keep going and see if I notice anything else :)

I’ve planned out all my meals and snacks for this week and have tried to include variety but in a healthy interesting way. It will be much better for me than what I have been eating…

A few months ago my day used to look like this:

No breakfast, chocolate and a cuppa at breaktime, unhealthy sandwich, pasty and cake/biscuit from the local shop with sugary soda for lunch. A bag of crisps and another cuppa at breaktime in the afternoon, then at dinner either take away or the fastest thing I could cook at home. I’d even have a sandwich before bed if i was hungry.

Now I have planned….breakfast – bagel and cream cheese with a strawberry and banana smoothie, snack – fruit and nuts for break, lunch is a healthy sandwich made at home with a yoghurt, snack and in the afternoon – breadsticks and houmous. dinner tomorrow will be salmon, new potatoes and veggies and fruit. Sounds healthy doesn’t it?

I’m continuing to drink more water rather than soda and i really feel the benefits after only a few days. I feel fresher and more motivated to do things because I have more energy.

Hopefully this healthier way of eating will increase that even more.

As a step on my path to being healthier I decided today just to drink water and eat fruit instead of the junk I’d usually eat and drink. Maybe it’s psychological but I really feel much more energised and happier. I came home and started cleaning upstairs – mainly my bedroom.



The Reality 2 years ago

I am generally a healthy person, I never miss a day of work haven’t needed to go to the doctor for any health or medical problems in about 3 years. However, I don’t feel healthy in myself. I feel tired a lot of the time, I get out of breath easily, my joints hurt, I get back pain and I feel lethargic and procrastinate a lot because some things just seem like too much effort. I need to live a healthier lifestyle.

At the moment, I don’t eat breakfast or drink enough water, I rarely exercise and my work is stressful. I tend to eat for convenience rather than nutrition and I eat too much junk food.

I know what I have to do to be healthier. I just need to stay motivated and now I have the best motivation of all. I have someone in my life who I love….my soulmate and I want to be with him for a long long long time. For myself and for my life with the man who makes my world complete I have to live a healthier lifestyle.
