I need to find a purpose in life... — 1 year ago
Right now, I have a job, I have a gf, I have friends, i’m living at home, families somewhat happy, though i don’t get to see them very much. One can still feel isolated even though there surrounded by people. I’m talking about the lack of family meals together, watching tv or just having a conversation. This would have to do with lack of time. Work has taken most of my time, day in day out, same routine, wake up go to work, come home shower, eat, internet then bed. I do on occasions go out with friends, catch a movie, dinner or drinking coffees, but that too feels like a routine. I know i’m not the only one, there has to be more to life than being in a rat race, though i’m not officially in it yet, i feel as if i am. I shouldn’t blame time, it should be solely depend on me on how to best manage it. Even at the best of times, not everyone has the time to accommodate it, whether that be giving it up or spending it wisely. I might have the time available, but they won’t, and when it’s vice versa i don’t. It goes into the ‘I’ll-make-more-time-next-week’ folder, the cycle is endless.
How can i improve my life? What can i do more of or less of? Whats important and what things aren’t important? What am i waiting for? How can i be sure i’m on the right path? How should i differentiate the difference between a want and a need? Is it possible to be both at once? Am i living just to exist or should i start living? Time is flying so fast by, if i don’t catch it would i miss it to regret later? So many questions and not enough hints of answers to come by. In the media, the news, it seems people are more interested in the lives of Hollywood celebrities, so called role models, in jail, or in rehab. A quote i found, “If everybody wants to be somebody, then there won’t be anybody left to be nobody”.
The greatest purpose in life for anyone would be to help others, but one cannot help others if they themselves cannot help themselves. It’s like the scenario of being in a plane, Who should you put the oxygen mask on first, You or your baby?. This isn’t being selfish either, living in a materialistic world, no one wants to know you if you haven’t got what is needed $$$. Aside from that, the other alternative would be to fly over into the poorer regions of the world and physically helping them through labour means.
The other great purpose in life is to serve God, depending on which path of choice, in this day and age there are so many to choose from. I think everyone has their own opinions, beliefs and reasons to suggest why one is more rightso than the others, but i say everyone will find out the truth only when they pass away. So until then, there’ll be continuance of fighting amongst one branch towards another.
Fighting for one’s countries, serving in the government sector protecting the public isn’t always guarantee satisfaction either. Soldiers serving the government fighting for a purpose would be a good cause but if the government is misguiding the public, then of course the soldiers are serving a lost cause, take eg of the Vietnam War. I’ve thought about being a fireman, fighting fires and rescuing people, or perhaps being a volunteer in Rescue Efforts, i’ve always admired the people that puts their lives on the line for a purpose and that purpose is saving others. I’ve seen alot of eg throughout the world lately, it’s always good to know everyone has a common cause or agreement (saving others). Politicians have a reputation for being the biggest liars, whether a pollie does or not is irrelevant the fact that they’ve been stereotyped. I wouldn’t be able to a politician, there aren’t as many good leaders as they were in history, the good always die young as they say.
After all that… My purpose in life at the moment as far as i’ know is to make the most of what i’ve got, reduced my spending into things that i classify as ‘want not, waste not’ category. Make new friends and rekindle old ones and reconnect wit my family. Or if or else fails i’ll follow this motto…
