What I keep telling myself: 17 months ago

It didn’t get messy in a day; it’s not going to get clean in a day.

Uuuuuuugh. 22 months ago

Why is this the hardest, more irritating goal of all?

Reopening this goal after a year. 2 years ago

New apartment. New mess. New cleaning routine I need to figure out.

Tomorrow is my birthday: the end. 4 years ago

It does require doing a little every single day and doing more than a little at least once a week but I do know now that I can do it and it is worth doing.

Week 4: 4 years ago

Really need to do some laundry, but with torrential rains and no car, that’s been postponed. Even though we hate it, and hate living here, having the apartment tidy enough to not cause us further stress is pretty good.

Week 3: The Halfway Point 4 years ago

Low cash meant no laundry/grocery shopping this weekend, but that will be remedied tomorrow.

Vacuuming still needs to be done (and done regularly more often).

Other than a few spots that need some decluttering, generally continuing the “no death from unclean house embarrassment” trend.

Week Two: 4 years ago

I think my definition of clean is “would I die of embarrassment if someone dropped by on short notice?” and we’ve been keeping it at least that clean so far.

I could really use a new vacuum (or to move to a place with harwood floors). The vacuum we have now vacuums about 3 feet of carpet before it needs to be emptied and it makes the whole process a major chore. Maybe that’ll be next on the list: buy a new vacuum.

Week One: 4 years ago

Some backsliding due to husband going out of town for a job interview, but otherwise, pretty impressive for being the first week. I didn’t vacuum everywhere I wanted to, but that’s an okay trade-off for getting to the laundromat an unprecedented two Sundays in a row.

My house is crazy clean. 4 years ago

Now, to keep it that way.

If I can keep it clean - as clean as it is now - for six weeks (until my birthday) I will consider this one done.

My mom is coming over tomorrow. 4 years ago

This generally means a frenzy of oh shit, must clean activity. I’m going to use this as an opportunity to clean stuff up and then keep it clean, now that I’ve made my schedule/checklist of cleaning.
