Save the Honeybees?!

my garden (what's left of it) 2 years ago

Most of my plants did ok while I was in NY.
The hubby seemed to think that fog and dew would keep them alive, so many of them died off.

The flowers have all started blooming up a storm since I’ve gotten back and had that time to make sure they’re watered 2 or 3x/week.

The bees are seemingly happy. They love the lavender especially, and the honeysuckle and jasmine.

So, for my part…I’m doing what I can for them bee-fellas.

I’m gonna mark this done (considering it done for my block, not even my neighborhood or city…the problem still remains, but I’ll continue to do what I can for my bees)

Laugh all you want to 2 years ago

right? here she goes, born on earth day, gonna cry about every scrap of litter like the Native American on that tv commercial in the 1970s…but here goes.

I was seriously disturbed by the news a few years ago (and, I’m old enough now to mean a dozen or so, when I say “a few”) that the African Killer Bees were invading.

I guess the deal with those stinking bees is that they are bigger, and they’re meaner (like wasps) but they don’t make honey.

So our friendly little honey bees are all “hey, what’s up there big bee? howzit?” and the African bee is all “Screw you! get outta this hive…it’s ours now, biatch!”

So, years ago it was predicted they would wipe out the American Honey bee.

NOW, I was upstairs today, baking scones, and the TV was on in the student lounge and they were talking about a generalized colony crisis or some such thing that’s killing them off.

What in the world can be done? We spray our crops with toxic, cancer-causing fertilizers and pesticides then we wonder how we can save the honey bee?

Sheesh.
