So, what was the degree like? Well….
First year—little did I know that the stress of the transition process would come back to haunt me in later years for other reasons…
Second year—it was ok, but the 59 I got for one subject would bode ill for the following year…(it was my lowest mark by far at that point)
Third year sem 1—failed the subject that followed the one I got 59 for in first semester, hated (and was fired from) my community pharmacy job, started doubting if pharmacy was for me.
Third year, sem 2—the stress of trying to pass everything so I could get a prereq waiver and overload first sem, 4th year. Also my first semester where I had 2 exams on the one day, and guess what, it was the first day of exams! (cramming for the 2 heaviest subjects a week before was not fun)
Fourth year, sem 1—relieved to have gotten my prereq waiver and overload, but now the stress of trying to pass so that all the effort I put into last sem and this sem was worth it: couldn’t stand the thought of staying back for a fifth year. Also battling disillusionment and just wanting to be done with this degree.
Fourth year, sem 2—relieved to have passed everything, but then came 2 months of most stressful job hunting, no longer disillusioned (thanks to my hospital placements) but still battling being over it all. And the stress of passing so that everything I’ve done has been worth it (from prereq waiver to getting a grad job) And then came….
1st December, 2009—results: 2 credits, 1 pass. And that’s all I need. Today shall be forever etched in my memory. It was the day I became B.Pharm.(USYD).
