Last week I tried to change my perspective on the coffee thing. In stead of “I am not allowed to drink more than 2 cups a day”, I tried to see it as “I can treat myself to two whole cups a day!”. Great results so far. I try to have my “treats” spread out: 1 in the morning, and 1 after dinner. The shift in perspective seems to make it easier to postpone coffee urges until later. Once or twice I even completely forgot about my evening cup! I’ve also started to drink a lot more water again.

It’s so hard to handle my coffee intake! I think I didn’t realise just how cafeine-addicted I was becoming… I have stopped drinking coffee as the very first thing in the morning, but other than that it’s not good. Today I had 3 cups in the morning, and another 3/4 during the rest of the day. I’ll just keep working on this…

I lost sight of most of my goals for a while, including this one. At the moment I’m mostly drinking coffee, lots of it. It’s for instance always the first thing I drink in the morning, and the rest of the day and evening I hardly ever drink water or tea or something else. Just coffee coffee coffee. I feel a bit dehydrated (of course), and all that caffeine is not good for me at all.
So, time to formulate a coffee goal again:
- drink something other than coffee as first thing in the morning.
- drink at most two cups per day.
- switch to other stuff (I do have to remember to drink something of course…)

The last few times I was at a party or in a pub I didn’t just drink alcohol, but switched to non-alcoholic stuff every once in while. It makes the following mornings nicer too :)

Today I had a very good study day, working at university from 10 to almost 6 on some tough grammar. During the studying I had a water bottle next to me at all times, and I drank one half liter in each 1,5 hour session. Perfect. So I have to conclude that just having a bottle there might be the key.

I had a bit of a set-back this week. After doing really good last week I hardly drank anything this week. About one pot of tea a day, but hardly any extra water. I think it’s mainly because I lost my favorite water bottle, but what kind of excuse is that…?

I’m emptying several bottles of water a day at the moment, so I’m doing pretty good. The strange thing is that the moment I really started to act healthier (last Monday), exercising and having normal sleeping hours and drinking a lot, I seemed to have gotten a bit sick. I have the distinct that that’s not a coincidence. My body is not used to this, and the change wasn’t at all gradual, but very “cold turkey”. So the response: throat and nose protest big time. But I’ll hold on, I know it’s good for me. It just takes some getting used to.

I always forget to drink enough water…
Subgoals:
- drink 2 liters of water each day
- drink less coffee, at most 2 cups a day (for now)
- drink less sugar in my coffee, first going back to 1,5 spoon per cup (for now)
- drink less hot chocolate (current drink “addiction”), at most 1 cup a week
- when drinking alcohol, switch to water in between drinks!
