in search of a Rainbow Tribe

When I was in elementary school, we were writing little papers on famous women, and one of my friends wrote about Josephine Baker. She was this gorgeous movie star who ended up adopting 12 kids, whom she refered to as her Rainbow Tribe. That has stuck in my mind and never left me after all these years, and always popped up in my head when I was thinking about what having a family might look like.

Now, I actually know a family with internationally adopted kids, and they are amazing. And I’ve met others who seem to be doing amazing feats of parenting with their kids that are all ages and nationalities. The only thing I havent figured out is how I am going to make a million bazillion dollars for all my beautiful adopted children and homeless kitties to live in. We are going to need a gigantic mansion. This isn’t to say that I think you need to be rich to do this service for children, I would still be happy to go thrifting for little pants and things, but I know I would want to give them everything (at least space to play, a big yard, organic fruit, etc). I also think that I had better be independently wealthy because once I start down the process, I don’t think it would be easy to stop, and say no to another child if I found one who fit into the family, and I would want them all to be well cared for, always.

I’m especially interested in adopting a child with special needs, or siblings because I think that they have the most to gain from becoming an american citizen and having access to the adaptive technochology and opportunities offered here.
