I’ve completely re-organized my room. Now I have four drawers in one of my dressers free, which is amazing, considering I had to pack everything in before.

But now I’m getting a new room. I’m not moving, just switching rooms, and getting a walk-in closet (finally!). This way I can get rid of 2 dressers I don’t need… or put them in storage for future use.

The very best thing about this is that I get to do what I want to it. I’m thinking strip the ugly blue wallpaper off of the walls, paint them, strip the floors (possibly… this would be by myself, of course—an insane amount of work), and possibly buy and stain the furniture I’m going to try getting. It’s going to take my money, but it’s my first official interior design project. Hopefully it turns out like I want it to. I’m still in the early stages of planning the design layout though. : )

First off, my room. 2 years ago

My representation of myself… but in room decor!!! (This is my room at home, btw, since I’m on hiatus from Pittsburgh/apartment life) So I’ve got 3 dressers, 2 storage thingies with see-through drawers (the cheapo ones all kids take to school, including this one), a nightstand, a storage ottoman(?), a bench for storage (upholstered in my silly wallpaper, just to mention), 3 hat boxes and block shelves (elementarily labeled A, B, C and D). Sounds like a lot of storage, right?

Not enough for me! All 3 dressers + my closet are stuffed with clothes. I wear about 1/4 of them. But the thing about me is that one day, I’ll feel a certain shirt would look super-ridiculous… or something would be wrong with it that I didn’t want to wear it. The next day, I think it looks a lot better, so I’ll wear it at random and like it that way. This tendency makes it harder to take certain things up to the attic for now.

I’ve got overbearing amounts of things.

Today, I found a rain jacket in drawer #5 on dresser 1. I won’t put it in the attic because I might need it.

I also found a suede brown jacket in the same drawer. (What is it with me and jackets in drawers? Ah yes! Its my puny closet with only enough room to hang nightmare dresses) I haven’t worn it since grade 8, but think it’s cute, even though its completely worn and I’d probably refuse to wear it in public. Right now, they’re both back in the dresser drawers because I can’t decide whether they’re worth a trip to the attic (which means I’ll never see them again)

Otherwise, I’m thinking like a true designer! I have really high ceilings. Putting posters up high just doesn’t do the trick. I’m not 12 anymore. I’m thinking shelves. This will equivalate the space of highs and lows, instead of letting gravity make things increasingly boring.

With a low budget, I was able to purchase a 5ft-long plain shelf from Target for $13 on clearance (since it’s not dormery season). Here’s the awesome part:

I got out the power tools and installed it myself (seriously, who’s the man?)

This will make room on my book shelf (which rests on elongated dresser #1) and I can put my silly knick-knacks (purchased from antique stores) on display. Maybe one day I’ll even find storage for my VHS tapes :gasp!:

I will post pictures of the finished product, but currently, posting photos would require a transfer USB which will be possible after a trip to Best Buy.. soon.
