7. Spin around and sit 1 month ago

My dog is now doing it every time 100%. Time to start on another trick.

7. Turn around and sit 1 month ago

Actually, I got Zodiac to turn around and then sit in just 2 hours of training. Accuracy is still low at about 20% compliance, but he definitely does it when prompted repeatedly.

Home again 2 months ago

I picked up my dog yesterday afternoon and immediately gave him a bath to clean him up. He was so tired and just wanted to sleep, poor guy. We went on a walk later on and he seemed just like his old self again. I hope I never have to go through this again. Too nerve wrecking!

Found 2 months ago

I got really good news today that my dog has been found and is at the shelter, however they will not reopen till Tuesday, so he has to spend 2 more nights there. I am really relieved and anxious to see him again.

Stolen 2 months ago

I’m really upset as my dog and a bicycle were stolen. My dog has an embedded microchip, but unless it is scanned by a vet or the shelter, I am not sure if I can get my dog back. I am really really disappointed in the human race.

omg…I just saw that this happened to Narcissa too. I miss my dog very much already.

Coming of age 3 months ago

Since getting back from vacation, my dog has been really well behaved. No accidents in the house and he has started to heal when walking outside, even when not on the leash. A few more commands and I think this task will be complete.

1. Fetch
2. Beg
3. Shake
4. Sit
5. Crawl
6. Roll over

Good week - Playing fetch 4 months ago

Building an understanding between the dog and me. He has to go out if he didn’t do #2 on the evening walk, and in the house he has not had any accidents. My son and I are working on getting him to fetch his new toy and bring it back. The fetching part is not a problem, but he is still having too much fun playing with the toy to bring it back in exchange for a treat. We will keep working on the goal.

My guard dog and alarm clock! 4 months ago

The dog has had two really good days Sunday and Monday morning. On Sunday, he was barking and when I went outside to see why, I saw a large raccoon twice as big as the dog on my tree. Using a flashlight, I chased him off.

Then this morning I forgot to set my alarm clock for work, so I risked oversleeping, but the dog came into my room and woke me up just a few minutes after my alarm would normally go off. Good dog!!

New bad habit 5 months ago

My son learned how to train the dog to play fetch this weekend instead of just runing away with the ball when we threw it.

However, I discovered that after a short trip outside last night, the dog had jumped up on the dining room table to get some food that had been left there. So another harsh warning and trip outside for bad behavior. I have had the dog outside the last 3 nights now because of bad behavior, although he doesn’t do any of his bad habits while he is being watched. There was food in the dog’s bowl, so it wasn’t an issue that he was hungry.

First steps 5 months ago

Our new dog is an adult Spaniel Lab mix my son chose and adopted from the shelter. He is very good most of the time, but he does have a few bad habits like picking things that smell good out of the trash, and a few housebreaking issues. I feel it is as much my responsibility to take away that temptation to go through the trash or need to pee in the house. I started compacting the trash more and not using the smaller wastebaskets for food waste, and there has only been 2 incidents of trash digging since that. As for housebreaking, I walk him every evening and have decided not to let him sleep in the house if he does not poop during the walk. I will report on the progress.
