organize my digital photo library

I’ve made some major progress over the last 36 hours. I’ve managed to burn 7 DVD’s with about 1500 images on each one. I’ve gone through the majority of my events- concerts, vacations, a wedding, etc.

Also, I finally picked up a copy of Photoshop CS4 last night, so I’ve been able to make some DVD covers for the cases right away, which has really kept me motivated to finish this project!

I’d say I’m about 2/3’s of the way done!

It’s an absolute mess. Thousands, upon thousands of photos spread across 3 different computers.

I’ve got 25,000 on my mac alone- and I’ve only had it for 9 months!

I’m wanting to organize everything now because I need to clean out my mac. I’ve finally acquired Photoshop & Lightroom, so there will be major changes to my workflow/storage. I don’t want to start messing around with that while I still have a bunch of messy files & folders (thank you for your horrible service, iPhoto). The way iPhoto stores your photos turns your computer into a disgusting hub of messiness.

I don’t even think I’m going to save all of the photos on my mac…just concert photos, out-of-the-ordinary shoots, & photos I’ve taken of my new puppy, Charlie. Of course, I’ll find a few others that I want to hang on to, but for the most part, they’re gone.

I’m going to start transferring the images to DVD tonight/tomorrow, and hopefully by the end of the day, I’ll be able to wipe my “Pictures” files on my mac.

Not even sure when I’ll get around to hitting up the other 2 computers. There’s one computer that I know has well over 50,000 images on it. I’m petrified to even think about sorting through them!
