voices/eyes

Sometimes listening to a person’s voice, regardless of what they say, tells me more about them than sitting down face to face and looking at their face/their eyes, etc.

Obama

I backed Hillary but of course I will support Obama because I care about the issues more than the person; however, it was great today to hear Obama lay out his foreign policy agenda—I support his agenda wholeheartedly and felt kind of excited by his candidacy for the first time!

Jhumpa Lahiri

Just started Unaccustomed Earth (Is that the title?) and I’m really enjoying it.

Just finished watching the program on PBS and I’m amazed by how powerful it was; I think I will need to follow up on the viewing experience, somehow.

Tonight's sentence

Alexander McCall Smith is the wittiest author I have ever read!

copied this one from 43 things right side. (Is there a word for the right side of 43 Things?)

“I arise in the morning torn between the desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” E.B.White
p.s. To those who commented on yesterday’s sentence(s) Obviously the question of mortality and of being the adult generation that’s next in line to exit strikes a nerve! Thanks for noticing!

Copied from Bob Morris in NYTimes Magazine, p. 66, April 27, 2008

“I’ve heard that you’re only free to become the adult you have always meant to be when both your parents are gone.” Now my own add on—that may be true, but I have no intention of leaving the stage so that my children will be free to become their truest adult selves. How does a parent manage to give her/his adult children the freedom to become themselves without exiting the stage completely? OOPs more than 1 sentence!!

April 26, 2008

I want to go through all of my closets and make books from the photos and memorabilia I took out of my mother’s apartment after she died, but I’m afraid that by the time I actually get around to organizing all of those memories, I will be close to dying myself!

I got a postcard from Bali today.
