This has seriously been a year of millions of open houses, tons of nights staying up talking about it, and even some tears (especialy in the last two weeks). We FINALLY closed on it yesterday. We now own or first home!

I’m not going to mark this as being done til the day we close. That is somewhere between May 2nd and May 18th…
I was getting pretty pissy about the lofts we were left to choose from, so we decided to take 2 weeks off from the hunt. The Monday after the two weeks were over our realtor called and said that the building we had previously ruled out as too spendy just lowered some of their prices. Our absolute favorite was in that building so we were cautiously optimistic. The unit we really liked was about $35,000-$40,000 outside of our budget so we weren’t really holding our breath. We were wrong! They lowered it $50,000, so we jumped on it! We put in a bid that night (aka signed a purchase agreement) and it was countered by 10:30 am the next day. Considering we took another $10,000 off on our bid we didn’t really think they would go for it so they agreed to all of our terms (free parking space, free storage unit, and the fridge from the model ((it’s amazing what you can do when they are desperate to sell))) and countered with $6,000 more. So we are getting our dream unit more than $54,000 off the original price! Today we will let them now we are accepting their counter offer and go from there! It’s the middle set of windows on he second floor!
Well the 5% won out. We’re guessing that the buildings realtors used us to pressure the person who had the original reservation. They probably didn’t even have to lower their price at all. So moving on again…
So yesterday we put down our reservation money on a unit. Now we have 10 days to enter into a purchase agreement or we get our money back and lose our reservation on the unit. So these ten days are the days where we try to get them to give it to us to for a better price. Thank god for realtors, since we have NO idea how to do that!!
We are soooo close! We just have to see which of the two almost identical units will give us the better price. Thank God for our realtor, since we have no idea how to get these two sellers to compete over this.
I was thinking of titling this some other four letter word but that might be less appropriate. Someone put in an offer on “our” unit today. They say when one door closes another opens. I suppose I can always buy a jacuzzi tub…
We might have a winner!! We have seen over 100 differents lofts and we might have finally found the one! We have the financing all set we just have to check out a couple more just to make sure this is the one. I would probably be devastated if someone else bought it before us. We want to close on May 1st just so that we don’t have to make our first payment until June 1st since it would be a hell of lot easier not paying rent and the mortgage at the same time. It’s coming sooooo soon! This pic is of the bathroom in the unit we like. It has a jacuzzi tub and a shower where the water shoots out at three different levels.
