First of all, thanks to all those that have submitted beautiful song lyrics over the past 3-6 months. You guys are awesome! I’ve been a tad busy lately, but really there’s no excuse to share incredible lyrics, so without further ado here’s my latest favourite.

California raised, Anna Nalick’s, is an incredible singer/song writer. Her powerful song ‘Breathe (2 AM)’ is a great inspiration with beautiful poetic verses. Anna’s sweet airy vocals, combined with her metaphorical statements pull you into a world of pain, judgment, regret, change, hope and peace.

This song touches my heart deeply, the lyrics are thought provoking, the main message being the title of the song; to ‘breathe’. To breathe is something we all have the power to do, it’s free, and because it’s free we often take it for granted and don’t really forsee the incredible benefits that controlled, focused and deep breathing can bring to our lives.

“Just breathe” ... No matter how bad something is in your life, no matter how much pain you’re experiencing, no matter how sad your heart is, your truth grounds you – know this for you can not run from yourself; you can not escape the unescapable. Forgive yourself, others, love yourself, love others, focus on your breathing. So long as you can breathe, you’re alive.

There’s something magical about the song ‘True colours’ – a song that has been rearranged as an acoustic set, on the new appropriately entitled album ‘The Body Acoustic’ by Cyndi Lauper. A beautiful endearing, romantic song that’s twenty years old, a timeless song that reaches out and comforts the soul. Beautiful, so very beautiful … enjoy.

I discovered this piece of music on the exceptional and timeless soundtrack for the ‘City of Angels’.

During the movie, a lover loses his partner. Her death and his feelings, are expressed by Peter Gabriel’s song, ‘I Grieve’ – also available on his masterpiece ‘Up’; a dark and almost traumatic listening experience in which Peter musically interprets, life, relationships and grief.

‘I grieve’ captures the essence of loss perfectly. The reflective qualities of what was once a relationship that is no more either through death or through a partner moving on, one feels a tremendous loss, a feeling of gloom, and oppression. As one comes to terms with loss, there’s a change in our attitude and whilst the memories and pain still remain there is always hope symbolised by the change of pace in the fifth verse as the energy increases; yet the previous layers remain bounding the listener to what has been.

This song will move you to tears; as you experience the journey of loss just allow the words and music to wash over your soul.

A friend introduced me to Anouk, a Dutch group – who’ve been racking up gold and platinum records – without my knowledge, and boy have I been missing out!

Anouk’s explosive voice is unique, exceptional and raw, comparable to that of the almighty Skunk Anansi; untamed and extreme, but I shouldn’t compare her to anyone, after all she is the one and only ‘Anouk!’.

Her songs are passionate, funky, rocky, alternative, poppy and as ‘Sony’ themselves state, “all in the course of one song”.

The track ‘Lost’, doesn’t keep to Anouk’s traditional powerhouse, guitar driving, sonic extremities that most fans are accustomed to hearing. Lost is akin to an acoustic set, so fragile and delicate; the waves of audio gently caressing your skin. Beautiful. So beautiful.
