I ran the Missoula “RiverBank Run”, which offered a 10k, 5k, and 1 mile run. I did the 10k, and it really showed me I’m not in the shape I thought I was in terms of my joints, I’ve still some healing to do. It was great feedback. It’s clear that this year’s marathon is too soon, but it was also clear that it’s great setting goals for shorter organized runs and I believe I’ll be ready for something in 2009.
I was up to 5 miles a day before the 10k run, but had to scale down to less than that twice a week for recovery and family stuff. But I’m on my way back to 5 miles in the morning. Next step is to pick a race for late July or sometime in August.

Last year I had a chance to be prepared for it, but I learned about it too late to get focussed. The second Missoula Marathon comes up July 13. I’ve got enough time to get ready for it this time. There was a class at the local health food store that I missed to teach an improv class.

Step one, start jogging again in the mornings.
Step two, register for one of the short runs in my area. 5k, 10k, stuff like that.
Step three, register for another run, but make sure it’s at least 10 miles.
Step four, register for a marathon.
Step five, get ready.
I know several folks in my area who have or will be running a marathon soon, so it would be helpful to ask their advice.
