enjoy life more

today i’m learning to enjoy life more and it’s starting out great. it’s the little subtle things that make life rich. not a new car (although that would be cool), not the things we buy or having the best. it’s things like watching a movie with someone you love, going for a walk, playing cards with friends or drinking a cup of coffee on the deck as day fades into evening.

this morning as i was sitting at the nook, thinking about a conversation i had with my 8 year old son, i had a moment of enjoyment. at the same time my wife was in the kitchen listening and singing along with louie armstrong singing “what a wonderful world.” how ironic that while i’m thinking how great today is that the ambiance in the background would be in harmony with my thoughts.

i smiled on the inside.

have you ever woke up and felt sad? wondering why you can’t shake how you feel, can’t put your finger on what it is? this happens ever so often and i start thinking about life. there is nothing in my life i can really complain about, except knowing it can be better. today i goolged “have fun”. it lead me to 43things.com. it inspired me to see others doing some cool things with their life.

for the most part i love life. i like to watch my kids play in the yard, the smell of coffee in the morning and a good book to read, watching the sun rise, hearing that song you love on the radio, talking with my wife about the days events. i love the 14 mile drive to work to pray, the 14 mile ride home to unwind while i listen to my favorite podcast.

for me enjoying life more means slowing down to notice. learning to see and find god in everything around me. i want to learn not to take myself so serious and laugh more, love more, help others, listening more and taking it all in at the same time.
