get a job

Apparently, H&R Block hires a lot of people around this time of year, and I got in just in time. I got through a basic assessment, a phone interview, and a “panel” interview, and now I just have to wait a week and see if I’m in.

They actually call you to tell you, even if you didn’t make it, which seems a little unusual, and very considerate, in a way.

... two breaks: an internship opportunity opened up at a place I’ve been in contact with on and off for about six months, and I randomly saw a picture of a friend on an ad for a personal training gym. I called the gym that posted that ad, and next thing I know I’m setting up to talk with the guy in charge about shadowing/interning with these folks.

There’s no money involved in any of this yet, but… score.

.. I should find a part-time job working in my field. That means a workout gym, a gymnastics gym, something like that. Just got completely shot down twice in a row for two good candidates, which hurt. Another two candidates don’t look good, either. We’ll just have to see.

At least I have a place to live.

... I need to start looking for work in my field (exercise/physical activity) before I take a job as a janitor somewhere. I’m not sure what to do. My friend is about to lose their apartment because of a lack of funds, and that makes me worried about my chances.

We all start somewhere… I guess.

... I’m out in the cold again. I see huge numbers of shitty jobs available in the classifieds, and I’m beginning to despair about the whole situation. There’s a certain level of self-delusion required to get through this, I think.

I have work today from 10-18. I’ve gotten a temporary job at a bookstore, but they don’t hire people after this temporary employment, and it only lasts two weeks. I’ll have plenty of hours, at least.

... late to work. It’s the third time in about a month. I’m just waiting to get fired from a part-time job filling cups of gatorade. That would make me feel GREAT.

Last week I had 8 hours for the entire week, so I complained to my superiors. I’m not sure whether as a joke or what, but I now have 25-30 hours over the next 4 days.

Be careful what you wish for.

I’m working at this part time job that will last through the summer, but I’m still trying to find something for the fall.

Right now, I’m working for Gatorade filling cups at “hydration stations” set up at summer camps. It’s just as complicated and exciting as it sounds.

Looks like I’ll be having a job over the summer, but only part time. I’ll probably be doing a lot of learning by volunteering different places.
